Portrait photography or portraiture in photography is a photograph of a person or group of people that captures the personality of the subject by using effective lighting, backdrops, and poses.
Being a Greek Orthodox Christian, a Godfather, and a former ordained altar boy from Zodohos Peghe Church in the Bronx, I am quite familiar with the nuisances required in photographing the holy sacrament of baptism in the Greek Orthodox church without disrupting the service.
I prefer to shoot without flash photography during the ceremony as to not frighten the child and disrupt the priest. In addition, many priests do not allow flash photography during any of their services (including weddings), but some are more tolerant than others and will grant exceptions - so ask your parish priest if flash is allowed when booking your event.
In lieu of flash photography, I shoot with high quality lenses, capable of apertures of f2.8 or faster, at the lowest ISO setting possible in order to capture the cleanest images possible by maximizing the ambient light of the church in every shot. My cameras also have the ability to shoot in silently (utilizing a digital shutter) for moments that require silence.
